Abstract

This paper provided the potential solutions for the growing problem that is coastal flooding. These solutions include building adaptations such as structure elevation and wet floodproofing, and community-wide solutions such as mangrove restoration. There is particular emphasis on coastal flooding in Miami, Florida and ways this problem can be addressed while also providing data and feasibility concerns that will likely be crucial to the approach this paper takes. This paper additionally anticipated means of paying for the proposed solutions and their costs and benefits. Importantly, there is a focus on the connection between this issue, climate change, and the rising push toward sustainability in cities. These are important and core aspects of the problem and this paper attempts to propose solutions that will be environmentally friendly and conducive to sustainable development in the long run.
