CHSC

What is the Campuswide Honors Student Council?

The Campuswide Honors Student Council (CHSC) is a registered student organization affiliated with Campuswide Honors that serves as the directing student leadership for the honors community. In addition to the elected/appointed council members, all honors students are automatically part of CHSC.

CHSC is dedicated to promoting academic excellence, developing strong student faculty relations, and coordinating social events and community outreach. Weekly coffee hours, dances, student mixers, the Battle of the Brains trivia bowl, and the annual banquet/senior celebration are just a few of the events traditionally held by CHSC.

Why should I get involved?

CHSC provides the opportunity for you to enrich your college experience by connecting and collaborating alongside other students in the honors community. As a volunteer or appointed council member, you have the ability to practice communicating, problem solving, event planning, and decision making, among other leadership skills.

CHSC welcomes your input, ideas, feedback or concerns. Be a part of making a difference by supporting the needs and interests of your Campuswide Honors peers!

How do I get involved?

If you are interested in learning more about CHSC and/or how to apply for a leadership position, please email chscatuci@gmail.com. You are also encouraged to join the CHSC meetings held every Wednesday (fall, winter, spring/weeks 1-9) from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Locus (located in Student Excellence Center Locus, 5th Floor, Science Library)!

Other Campus Involvements: Learning Assistant for gen chem labs, ASUCI staffer, undergraduate research lab assistant

Hi everyone, my name is Kelly (she/her), but I also go by Kiwi so feel free to call me by either name! I am a second-year Chemistry major and one of the CHSC Secretaries this year. When I’m not in class or at a CHSC event, you might catch me running around in the lab (metaphorically, of course – running in the lab is a safety hazard!) at NS2 or Rowland Hall, since I’m an undergraduate research lab assistant and an LA for various gen chem labs. My hobbies include writing poetry, listening to music, playing guitar and ukulele, and just enjoying the nice SoCal weather outside in Aldrich Park. I joined CHSC last year to meet new people and get involved in the CHCommunity, and all of the amazing council members welcomed me with open arms. This year, I hope to do the same, providing a safe and comfortable environment for all incoming and returning students. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to talk! I’m always down to make another friend 🙂

Planning engaging events where our honors community can give back to the greater UCI community and beyond is important to me so that we can be of help while allowing honors students chances to build friendships with each other. CHSC events helped me make friends when I started school at UCI my first year knowing next to no one, so I want to give other CHC students the same sorts of chances to make friends. I can’t wait for all of the CHSC events that we will host this year, and I hope to see you there!

Just this past quarter, I decided I would submit my photography to NAR’s spring competition. I don’t consider myself an artistic person at all but the event was incredibly welcoming and fun to be a part of. As of writing this, I am currently a CHSC social representative and a social chair for PACA (PharmSci Alternative Careers Association). When I was a first-year student at UCI, I honestly was super nervous that I would not be able to make friends due to the remote nature of the school year. Then when my second year rolled around, I attended the in-person events hosted by the CHSC social committee and met a multitude of diverse and enjoyable CHC students. I met friends through CHSC events (specifically coffee hours), and I deeply appreciate CHSC for putting on many engaging and informative activities. As a result, I want to give back to the CHC community by joining CHSC as a social chair to host future social events!
