Campuswide Honors Student Council

CHSC

What is the Campuswide Honors Student Council?

The Campuswide Honors Student Council (CHSC) is a registered student organization affiliated with Campuswide Honors that serves as the directing student leadership for the honors community. In addition to the elected/appointed council members, all honors students are automatically part of CHSC.

CHSC is dedicated to promoting academic excellence, developing strong student faculty relations, and coordinating social events and community outreach. Weekly coffee hours, dances, student mixers, the Battle of the Brains trivia bowl, and the annual banquet/senior celebration are just a few of the events traditionally held by CHSC.

Why should I get involved?

CHSC provides the opportunity for you to enrich your college experience by connecting and collaborating alongside other students in the honors community. As a volunteer or appointed council member, you have the ability to practice communicating, problem solving, event planning, and decision making, among other leadership skills.

CHSC welcomes your input, ideas, feedback or concerns. Be a part of making a difference by supporting the needs and interests of your Campuswide Honors peers!

How do I get involved?

If you are interested in learning more about CHSC and/or how to apply for a leadership position, please email chscatuci@gmail.com. You are also encouraged to join the CHSC meetings held every Wednesday (fall, winter, spring/weeks 1-9) from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Locus (located in Student Excellence Center Locus, 5th Floor, Science Library)!

Kayla

Leadership Role: CHSC Academic Chair
Other Campus Involvements: ZMU Presentation Coordinator

Hello, my name is Kayla (she/her). I am a second year biological sciences major planning to pursue a career in ophthalmology/optometry. I am one of the Academic Chairs in the Campuswide Honors Student Council this year, and I am so excited to meet everyone else in the CHC. As a first year, I wasn’t very sure what activities or clubs to join, and even when applying for a representative position in the CHSC, I was still a little hesitant. However, after serving as a representative, I realized that being part of CHSC was so fulfilling and engaging that I wanted to serve again as Academic Chair. Outside of CHSC, I am also the presentation coordinator for a pre-health club on campus known as ZMU. Some of my hobbies include running my studygram account (ig: @kraystudiez), watching horror movies with my family, creative writing, and trying new foods! I look forward to getting to meet everyone and I hope we have a successful year as CHC Leaders!

Hi! My name is Ethan (he/him) and I am one of the Campuswide Honors Student Council (CHSC) Social Chairs! I am a third year Public Health Sciences major and Medical Humanities Minor. In addition to being a part of CHSC I am also a Honors Peer Mentor and the Advertisement and Recruitment Officer for MEDLIFE at UCI. Coming to UCI from a small high school I was worried about finding my place at UCI. However, attending various social events, like Coffee Hour, helped me to find friends and make connections with so many amazing people. I was inspired by this experience to get involved and join CHSC as a Social Representative. Being a part of CHSC and the Social Committee specifically has been such a wonderful experience and I have enjoyed helping plan and host social events to help foster the amazing CHCommunity!

Babak

Pronouns: he him
Leadership Role: CHSC Secretary/Treasurer

Hello. My name is Babak, and I am the Secretary and Treasurer for the council. I am a third year economics major, and this is my second year being part of CHSC. My job is to keep track of different events that we create as well as monitoring our funds for those events. In all honesty, I first joined CHSC when covid struck as I needed something new and wanted to reincorporate myself back into UCI in some manner, and I have had no regrets since. Through my current position and as Collaboration Chair last year, I have met a lot of cool people that I would not have met in normal, covid circumstances. In my free time, I personally enjoy watching tv and playing racquetball at the ARC. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I will certainly reach out to you. Hopefully, this year will be a fun one and I hope to see you guys on Wednesdays during our meetings.

Samy

Pronouns: he/him
Leadership Role: CHSC Vice President
Other Campus Involvements: Honors Ambassador, NAR Event Coordinator, UCI Health Patient Experience Intern, Medlife @ UCI Fundraising Chair, SAMS @ UCI Secretary

Hello everybody! My name is Samy (he/him) and I am a third-year Human Biology major and Health Informatics minor. Being a part of the CHC has been one of the most enjoyable and meaningful aspects of my time at UCI, and I currently have the privilege of representing the Honors community as an Honors ambassador, serving as Campuswide Honors Student Council (CHSC) Vice President, and working with NAR, honors’ creative works journal, as their Event Coordinator. Throughout my involvement with CHC, I have had a great time setting up events with CHSC, competing with other students in Battle of the Brains against the faculty, and enjoying countless incredible experiences with my peers who have helped make the Honors environment so wonderful. Outside of CHC, I participate in the Patient Experience Internship at UCI Medical Center, and I am also involved with Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS @ UCI) and Medlife @ UCI, two organizations that serve to help others through the pathway of medicine. In my spare time, I have fun playing basketball, watching sports highlights, and playing (and oftentimes losing in) Rocket League and Fortnite. I’m extremely excited to continue my involvement with Honors and further connect with all the amazing people in the CHCommunity and beyond!

Stephany

Pronouns: she/hers
Leadership Role: CHSC Social Chair Officer

My name is Stephany. My pronouns are she/hers. I take pride in being one of the CHSC Social Chair officers. Coming into my first year at UCI, I was undeclared however I knew wanted to be involved in a supportive community. I found right away in my first few attendances to CHSC meetings that becoming a representative for CHSC would be a way for me to feel more connected in the CHC community. In my free time, I enjoy the playful art of creation. You can find me making origami out of scrap bits of math homework or 3d modeling and animating small Blender projects. In light of UCI being remote during the pandemic, I’ve implemented my affinity for technical skills in learning how to create a virtual social space for CHC students to stay connected. I have helped set up and host social events across multiple online platforms like Gathertown for Coffee Hours and running Streamlab OBS for Battle of the Brain Trivia (BOTB) YouTube live stream. Currently, I’m a 2nd year, successfully transferring from Undeclared to CS major. One aspect I appreciate in being a part of CHSC and am honored to uphold is the engaging community of Honors students and faculty. Throughout my time as a part of CHSC, I aspire to foster communal connection and support for my fellow Honors peers.

This year, I am also a Peer Academic Advisor for the School of Humanities, so I will be spending quite a bit of time in the Humanities Undergraduate Office on campus. Roseanne

Pronouns: she/her/hers
Leadership Role: CHSC Treasurer/Secretary
Other Campus Involvements: We (Skin)care Marketing Director, Free Clinic Project Research Associate, and Healing through Humanities member

Hello, my name is Roseanne (she/her/hers), and I am the Treasurer/Secretary for the Campuswide Honors Student Council! CHC was a major factor in my decision to attend UC Irvine, so when I became a CHC student, I really wanted to see first-hand how the program was run. And now I’m here, alongside CHSC members who work incredibly hard to bring different opportunities and events to honors students! I’m currently a 2nd Year on the pre-med track. It’s incredibly important for me to pursue medicine with a humanistic approach, so I’m also involved in organizations that tackle that goal in different ways. From CHSC and directing marketing for We (Skin)care, to conducting research for the Free Clinic Project and exploring medical humanities with other students in Healing through Humanities, I’ve long realized how abundant the opportunities are at UCI. When I’m not studying or working, I love to read, watch Netflix, sip boba, paint, hang with family/friends, and listen to music. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions whatsoever; I’d be happy to help!

But you can always count on me to be there for Coffee Hour on Friday mornings (behind the Science Library)! I became involved in the CHSC during the pandemic because I found it hard to connect with other students so I wanted to help put on events for people to go to. I like to cook food and watch too much TV in my free time. If you ever have a good idea for a social event, let me know! We’re always looking for ideas that’ll get more Honors students to come out (mlassaig@uci.edu)!

Hello! My name is Jena (she/her/hers) and I am a third-year undergraduate student studying computer science. Within the Campuswide Honors Collegium, I serve as an Honors Ambassador, Collaboration Chair on the CHSC, and Honors Peer Mentor. Being in the honors program has given me the opportunity to be part of a close-knit community of like-minded individuals. Through honors classes and events, I have been able to meet and form bonds with people who are also similarly driven in their academic pursuits. More importantly, without the CHC, I would not have the friends I have today! I’m grateful to honors for providing me with a supportive community that I can both rely on and be involved in. Outside of school, I enjoy making baked goods in my kitchen, taking care of my house plants, and finding new places to eat. I’d be more than happy to share my experiences within the honors program and UCI, so if you have any questions, feel free to send me an email anytime. I look forward to meeting you all!
