Campuswide Honors Alumni Gather at UCI Homecoming
Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 dawned with Anteaters getting excited for Homecoming, while casting a wary eye at the weather. And indeed by the afternoon, it was raining in torrents. However, this did not dampen the spirits of intrepid Campuswide Honors alumni, who gathered on the 5th floor of the Science Library in the CHC’s new space for a Campuswide Honors Collegium Open House.
Forty-five guests braved the weather to reconnect with old friends, see current and former CHC staff and faculty, and to just have a good time. Tours were given of the CHC offices and the new Locus, which many alumni had not seen since the CHC’s move to the Science Library. Guests were also able to visit the rest of the 5th floor, called the Student Excellence Center, which in addition to CHC houses UCI’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the Scholarship Opportunities Program.
Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning Michael Dennin spoke on the importance of Campuswide Honors in providing an outstanding honors experience to UCI students. Alumni also had the opportunity to meet the CHC’s new Associate Dean Brandon Golob, and to hear his perspective on the impact of the CHC, whose population now includes a significant number of students who are the first in their families to attend college.
After food, drink, a great deal of networking and getting to know one another, many Campuswide Honors alumni headed into Aldrich Park for more festivities, and then the basketball game in the evening. Many thanks to everyone who came, and we hope we will see you and many others at a similar event at next year’s Homecoming!
