Campuswide Honors Alumni Updates – Spring/Summer 2022

Alex Block (‘15) completed his PhD in Computer Science at Purdue University on August 06, 2022. He will begin a Postdoctoral Researcher position in September 2022 at the University of Maryland and Georgetown University.

Garrett Blair (‘15) received his PhD from UCLA in 2021 and moved across the country. He is a postdoctoral researcher at New York University – Center for Neural Science.

Reed Zaiss (‘16) received his JD from UCI School of Law in 2021. Last fall, he started his career as an associate for Hogan Lovells. Reed also recently got engaged to his fiancée.

Julia Peng (‘18) moved to Utrecht, Netherlands.

Emma Wilfong (‘20) has been running the UCI COVID-19 testing site. She is about to start law school at the University of Michigan in Fall 2022.

Jessica Mangold (‘21) finished her first year of law school at UCLA. Jessica was recently admitted to the UCLA Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy and she added the Critical Race Studies specialization. This summer, Jessica is interning with the Legal Services Department at the Jenesse Center, a non-profit organization that provides holistic services and support to survivors of domestic violence and their families in the Los Angeles area. So far, she has had the opportunity to work on immigration and family law cases as well as directly interface with the clients, whether that be over the phone or during court accompaniment. “Public interest law, without a doubt, is my career path and I am so grateful for the wonderful undergraduate experience that nurtured my passion for serving others and led me here,” Jessica says.

Arlene Ho (‘15) purchased and closed on a home, graduated medical school, moved cross country, got married, moved into the house, went on a honeymoon, and started training for residency as a Medicine-Pediatrics Resident Physician. Arlene received her MD, MBA from Western Michigan University in 2022.

Christina Green (‘04) just graduated with honors with her MBA from the Hybrid program at University of Washington – Foster School of Business while working full-time. Christina was the only parent in the top 8 students and 1 of only 2 women in the group. She is currently working as a Senior Product Manager for Microsoft.

Kellie Dunn (‘02) completed her BA in Drama at UCI in 2002 and began a successful 2-decade career as a costume craft/prop artisan for performing arts companies across the US. She then returned to school and completed an MS in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington in 2020, where she has continued to work on technology for fabrication as a research scientist and engineering lab manager. In late 2022, she will be moving to Denmark to begin a PhD program in Human Centered Computing at the University of Copenhagen, focused on artistic explorations in the future of remote work.

Noah Asing (‘21) received a M.Eng. Bioengineering from UC Berkeley in May 2022. Noah started working as an Associate Statistical Scientist at Freenome.

Reema Saad (‘21) will be attending UC Davis in Fall 2022 to begin the PhD program in Sociology.

Ginny Henry (‘20) finished her first year of her doctoral program in clinical psych that she moved across the country for. She is pursuing a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology.

Lance Lee (‘19) worked for a year and then went back to UCI for law school. His expected graduation date is May 2023.

Tiffany Nguyen (‘16) graduated from medical school in Florida. She did a preliminary surgical year at Orlando Health in Orlando FL and learned a lot from the trauma team that took care of patients during the Pulse shooting in 2017. Tiffany is moving on to General Surgery residency in Detroit Michigan at DMC Sinai Grace.

Shannon O’Connor (‘19) is pursuing a Master of Science in Learning Sciences and Technology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her expected graduation date is August 2023. She is the Senior School Projects Coordinator for Elite Open School.

Asthrea Camilon (‘14) has been living in Hirosaki city in Aomori prefecture, Japan, as an Assistant Language Teacher on the JET Program since September 2016. This July will be the true end to her time on this job (she got a special 6th year renewal because of the pandemic). Asthrea will start work at a Japanese business consulting company in Tokyo. During all of this, Asthrea broke her first bone ever, planted rice, hiked a mountain, started ballroom dancing, had her first solo art exhibition, went to Spain, and built her little utopia in Animal Crossing. “Things have been good and bad, but definitely net good by a large margin. Looking forward to turning 30, flirty, and thriving,” Asthrea says.

Jennifer Pearce (‘17) attended USC and received her Master or Science in Nutrition, Healthspan, and Longevity and achieved her goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian. She now works at CHOC Children’s as a clinical pediatric dietitian. CHOC Children’s is affiliated with two other important institutions in Jennifer’s life, UCI and The Walt Disney Company. She worked at Disneyland throughout her years at UCI and has continued to work there, coming up on 10 years. Jessica shares, “Working full time at CHOC Children’s leaves me making magic just a couple times a month, but I’ll take what I can get!” She adds, “I specialize in eating disorders, inpatient and outpatient, and mental health. It is truly my dream job! While I’m not providing nutrition education or counseling, I make a great effort to pose with our volunteering and resident service dogs!”
